The Bard Summer Intensive in Education is a distinctive summer program held in partnership with the Broadmoor neighborhood in the heart of New Orleans; Broadmoor is a diverse community that galvanized local support to reestablish its school in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Through the Summer Intensive in Education, undergraduate students from local and national colleges and universities engage with both the theory and practice of education in a city on the cutting edge of education reform. Students participate in a two-credit course on urban education and policy taught by a leading scholar and work as teachers at a summer enrichment program. BSIE is held under the auspices of the Bard Urban Studies in New Orleans program as an independent track focused specifically on public education.
